We’ve had quite an exciting start to our 2015-16 year. Our kickoff event at the beach started the year off right with a swim in Lake Simcoe, a picnic, fun games and sports, and some time to reconnect with friends after the summer, and to make some new ones. Although the day was chilly, it gave us a warm start to the year.
After the High Holy Days, we jumped right back into our events with Kadima Shabbaton. We saw our biggest group of Kadimaniks at this event in many years, and boy, did we celebrate! We helped Scooby Doo and the gang solve the mystery of the lost ark, Noah’s Ark of course. After a great USY Shabbat together, we all became cartoon artists and made our own comic books. At the end of the night we asked the group to come up with their ‘roses & thorns’ (favourite and least favourite parts of the weekend), and we were thrilled to hear that no one could come up with a ‘thorn’. It was a great success!
On a more personal note, I recently spent a week in Israel at the World Zionist Congress where I got the chance to interact with colleagues from across the globe. Staff and leaders from NOAM, the Conservative Jewish youth organization all over the world, and USY had a Shabbaton together to discuss best practices, and to share the unique cultures of our individual organizations. We were able to find ways to work together, starting with ‘International Wear A NOAM/USY T-Shirt Day’ on November 4. Everyone is looking forward to more collaboration in the future.
We now look ahead at the year-to-come. We have many more exciting programs coming up for all of our age groups. We are also excited about International Convention in Baltimore this December! With close to twice the number of participants in our delegation since last year, I know that we can look forward to an incredible experience.
We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our upcoming events. Visit our Events page for all the details!
