I am very pleased to let you know that United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism has appointed Max Marmer as Regional Youth Director (RYD) for the Eastern Canada Region of United Synagogue Youth (ECRUSY).
Many of you know Max well and can attest to the strength of his bonds with Kadima and USY and his passion for Conservative Jewish youth programming, which can be traced to his roots at Shaar Shalom Synagogue in Thornhill. During his time in ECRUSY, Max made lifelong friendships and gained outstanding leadership experience at the Chapter and Regional level, including serving as ECRUSY’s Communications Vice President while in Grades 11 and 12, and rounding out his USY leadership career as International Communications Vice President. Max was previously the Kadima Advisor at Congregation Or Shalom in London. For the last two and a half years has been the Youth Coordinator at Shaar Shalom Synagogue in Thornhill, responsible for all youth programming including Kadima and USY, while also supporting ECRUSY as a Staff Advisor at regional and international USY events and conventions. Max will be continuing his studies in Human Resource Management at York University while serving as RYD.
Max brings tremendous enthusiasm, terrific experience and a great track record of success in all aspects of this important role, and I’m very pleased that he will be working with volunteer and professional Chapter Youth Directors across Eastern Canada. Max and I share the view that active involvement in youth programs like Kadima and USY fosters a unique personal connection to Judaism for our teens through new friendships, social activities, synagogue involvement, social action/Tikkun Olam, connections to Israel, and USCJ’s incredible regional, international and summer programs.
A huge personal thank you from me to Michelle Rich, USCJ’s Director of Youth Services in New York for her leadership, guidance and ongoing support of ECRUSY, especially during this transiton, and to Tamara Kochberg Rebick of Toronto for her advice and support.
I know that we all look forward to working with Max to make Kadima and USY an even better experience for our teens. Please join me in congratulating Max on his appointment as ECRUSY’s Regional Youth Director and wishing him every success in this important role.
Chairman, USCJ Eastern Canada Youth Commission
